The lesson was absolutely fantastic. 1st day was all about land based kite control. 2nd day started off with the various body drag techniques to get used to the kite and understand how to body drag safely. Then got onto the waterstart which once I got more confident with Matty allowed me to start riding both directions. He gave me an introduction in edging and even let me try out some transitions. Overall it was a really great couple of days that I cannot wait to repeat.

I had the privilege of training under Matty, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. He is incredibly professional, prioritising safety without ever losing his friendly, patient, and approachable manner. His passion for kitesurfing and teaching shines through in everything he does, and it’s genuinely contagious. What stood out to me was the way Matty offers a variety of teaching approaches, always making things feel accessible, no matter your experience level. I was extremely nervous about teaching my first student and almost backed out entirely. But Matty saw something in me, gently encouraged me, and helped me push past my fears and self-doubt. I left that day not just having taught my first student, but with a huge smile on my face — I laughed a lot, felt supported throughout, and actually had fun doing something I was initially scared of. Matty teaches more than just how to be a good instructor. He teaches how to truly care for people, how to connect in a meaningful way during lessons, and how to create an experience for students that goes beyond just ticking boxes. That kind of guidance stays with you. I’m genuinely grateful for everything I learned during the course, and a big part of that is thanks to Matty’s energy, enthusiasm, and depth of knowledge. You can tell he really loves what he does.

Had a dream about being a kite surfer years ago, flying and doing tricks, and although I wasn’t quite there after 6 hours of learning, Mikey definitely made the experience feel like that! Really pleased to have learnt the basics of the sport with such a wonderful community of people and will definitely be back next spring to learn some more advanced skills. Thank you! :-)

Absolutely fantastic. Had an awesome time learning with Matty at Zenith. Really relaxed and explained everything really well. Felt really confident with the progressions as Matty was always there with encouragement and good feedback.

Great First experiance kite surfing. The equipment and tuition was first class, friendly and patient, Matty took the time to assess our ability and got us moving really quickly. After the lesson it was great that he took the time to answer questions via text and continue to support us in our new sport.

The guys at Zenith Kiting were great, they moved us on quickly through the course where they identified that we needed more instruction they slowed down and gave us the time to aquire the skill. Couldn't be more happy with the progress we have made and the backup and support we have received outside of the lessons.

Laraine was a fantastic instructor, she is clearly really knowledgeable and was very clear in her training with emphasis on safety. She was very patient with me, I was very nervous at the beginning so it was a slow progression i had no watersports experience but I am now riding independently and with confidence in the water.

I would recommend a lesson with Matty at Zenith to anyone. A really friendly guy who is passionate about his sport. Clear instructions and demonstrations made it easy to progress. Can’t wait to go back.

Matty is a terrific instructor. Makes everything so easy to understand, great patience. Cannot fault the programme. Maybe the manual could have a glossary and index to best use it for referencing facts and maybe a clear list of compulsory IKO standards for this level.

I recently had the pleasure of taking a 3-hour 1 to 1 beginner kiteboarding lesson with Matty in Clacton-on-sea and let me tell you, it was an absolute blast! First off, Matty's teaching style is first class. Unlike my previous experience with another school (4 hours of intro lessons, phew), Matty didn't waste a second covering stuff I already knew. He dove straight into the juicy bits, offering crystal-clear instructions and paying keen attention to my progress. The course format and pace were spot-on. We covered a ton without feeling rushed or stuck in slow-mo. Matty paid attention to my kite handling skills, providing timely corrections and giving me more freedom as soon as I showed I could handle it. From beach launches to water relaunches, beach strolls to body drags, and a bunch of board starts, we covered the whole shebang, including safety protocols. One genius move was starting with a 12-meter line and later switching to 20 meters for board starts. Those shorter lines were a game-changer, helping me get really comfortable with the kite by the time we upgraded. And can we talk about the equipment? We got to play with high quality North Kites and bars that looked immaculate and straight from the showroom! Another cool thing is Matty filmed my progress throughout the lesson. Getting those short videos at the end was not just a fantastic ego boost but also a killer way to show off to friends who couldn't believe I was actually kiteboarding haha. In conclusion, if you're on the hunt for a kiteboarding instructor who knows their stuff, keeps it fun, and throws in a dash of tech-savvy by capturing your awesome moves on film, Matty's your man!
